Shangrao, known as Guangxin and Xinzhou in ancient times, is a prefecture-level city in Jiangxi Province and one of the important cities in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. Shangrao is located in the northeast of Jiangxi Province, between 27°48′ ~ 29°42′ n latitude and 116°13′ ~ 118°29′ e longitude. It connects Zhejiang in the east, Fujian in the south and Anhui in the north, and is at the intersection of the Yangtze River Delta region, the West Coast of the Strait Economic Zone and Poyang Lake Ecological Economic Zone. It is reputed as "the capital of superior richness and ecology", "the thoroughfare of all Directions" and "the first Gateway of Yuzhang". It is an important part of "the source of Chinese pottery".
Shangrao has many famous mountains and scenic spots. As early as in the Tang Dynasty, Shangrao has been a tourist resort. There are numerous sightseeing travelographies and poems left by officials and celebrities of all dynasties. The territory has rich landscape, red revolution sites and ancient color culture remains. The pottery unearthed at Xianrendong Site in Shangrao City dates back 20,000 years, making it the earliest pottery ever found in the world.
