Xilin Gol, referred to as Xilin League, is the governing league of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, with Xilin Hot as the main center, Erenhot and Duolun as the sub-centers, Uriastai as the key node in the east, and other banner (district) government locations as the backbone support. As of May 2020, the league has jurisdiction over 2 cities, 9 flags, 1 county, 1 administrative district and 1 development zone. As of 2021, Xilin Gol League has a permanent population of 1,115,700.

Xilin Gol is located in the central part of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, bordering Mongolia in the north with a border of 1,103 kilometers. It is bordered on the west by Ulanqab; It is adjacent to Hebei Province in the south; It is connected to Chifeng, Tongliao and Hinggan League in the east; It is 460 kilometers away from Beijing as the crow flies. With a total area of 202,600 square kilometers, it is the intersection of Northeast China, North China and Northwest China. It plays an important role in connecting Europe and Asia externally, connecting east and west within the autonomous region, and connecting north and south.

In September 2016, Xilin Gol League was selected as one of China's Top 100 prefecture-level cities in Livelihood Development. In June 2020, it was selected into the list of the first batch of national law-based government construction demonstration areas and projects.

In 2021, Xilin Gol League's GDP reached 101.474 billion yuan, an increase of 5.8% over the previous year.
