Yunnan Province, referred to as Yunnan or Yunnan for short, is one of the 23 provinces in China, located in the southwest region and the provincial capital Kunming. It is located between 21 ° 8 ′ - 29 ° 15 ′ N and 97 ° 31 ′ - 106 ° 11 ′ E, bordering Guizhou and Guangxi in the east, Sichuan in the north, Tibet in the northwest, Myanmar in the west, Laos and Vietnam in the south. Yunnan Province has a total area of 394100 square kilometers, accounting for 4.1% of the total land area of the country, ranking eighth in the country. Yunnan Province is one of the provinces with the longest border line in China. There are 25 border counties in 8 states (cities), which border with Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam respectively.

Yunnan Province is a low-latitude inland region, with the Tropic of Cancer running through the south, the terrain is high in the northwest and low in the southeast, and the gradient from the north to the south is gradual. It is a mountainous plateau terrain, with the mountainous area accounting for 88.64% of the total area of the province, spanning the six major river systems of the Yangtze River, the Pearl River, the Yuan River, the Lancang River, the Nu River and the Daying River. The climate of Yunnan Province basically belongs to subtropical and tropical monsoon climate, and the climate of northwest Yunnan belongs to plateau mountain climate. The number of animal and plant species in Yunnan Province is the highest in the country, known as the "kingdom of animals and plants", known as the "kingdom of non-ferrous metals", with a long history and culture, beautiful natural scenery, and is one of the important birthplaces of human civilization.

By 2022, Yunnan Province has 16 prefecture-level administrative regions, including 8 prefecture-level cities, 8 autonomous prefectures, 17 municipal districts, 18 county-level cities, 65 counties and 29 autonomous counties, totaling 129 county-level divisions. As of 2021, Yunnan Province has a permanent population of 46.9 million, which is the province with the largest number of ethnic groups in China. There are 25 ethnic minorities living in the world.

Yunnan Province is the radiation center of China facing South Asia and Southeast Asia. It is located at the junction of China, Southeast Asia and South Asia. It has been selected as the national free trade pilot zone. It is an important part of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, a national popular tourist destination and a major province of culture and tourism. In 2021, Yunnan Province will achieve a gross regional product (GDP) of 2714.676 billion yuan, an increase of 7.3% over 2020.
