Hainan Province, or "Qiong" for short, is the southernmost provincial administrative region of the People's Republic of China. Haikou is the provincial capital. It is China's special economic zone and pilot free trade zone. Located in South China, Qiongzhou Strait is demarcated with Guangdong in the north, Beibu Gulf in the west and Guangxi and Vietnam, South China Sea and Taiwan in the east, and the Philippines, Brunei and Malaysia in the South China Sea in the southeast and south. Hainan is located in the edge of the tropics, is a tropical province, belongs to the tropical oceanic monsoon climate. Hainan has a total land area of 35,400 square kilometers, of which 33,900 square kilometers have a sea area of about 2 million square kilometers, making it the largest "tropical treasure land" in China. The coastline of Hainan is 1,823 kilometers, and the sea area under Hainan's jurisdiction is about 2 million square kilometers, making it the largest maritime province in China.
During the Qin Dynasty Hainan was an outsider Sang-jun. In the first year of Yuanfeng of the Western Han Dynasty (110th B.C.), Hainan was formally included into the territory of the Western Han Dynasty, as 2 prefectural prefecture -- Zhuya Prefecture and Dan 'er prefecture. In April 1988, the Hainan Administrative Region was abolished, the Hainan Provincial People's Government was established, and Hainan Island was designated as a special economic zone. The administrative area of Hainan Province includes the islands and reefs of Hainan Island, Xisha Islands, Zhongsha Islands and Nansha Islands and their waters. It is the largest province in China.
The terrain of Hainan Island is high in the middle and high in the middle. It is shaped like a domed mountain, with the highest peaks Wuzhi Mountain (1,867 m) and Yingge Ridge (1,811 m) as the core of the uplift. It gradually descends to the outside. Most of the large rivers in Hainan Island originate from the central mountainous area and form a radial water system. Hainan is the only inhabited area of Li nationality in China, Li nationality has distinctive ethnic culture and customs.
As of September 2015, Hainan Province has jurisdiction over 4 prefecture-level cities, 5 county-level cities, 4 counties and 6 autonomous counties. By 2021, Hainan had 10.2046 million permanent residents, an increase of 123,400 over the previous year. In 2021, Hainan's GDP reached 647.52 billion yuan.
